The Space Station has a Facilities Manager, whose task it is to keep the Station clean. Besides, Hannah is not likely to have the right fungicidal disinfectant with her in the shower!. There is no point in testing the mold unless it becomes a persistent problem. Hannah
reminds herself to tell Augustus about the mold.
Now I have had my shower It is time for breakfast. I dress in a clean jumpsuit, which is standard attire on the Space Station. We each have eight sets of day-clothing and four sets of night-clothing supplied. We are responsible for our own clothes washing, and we change our clothes according to our personal preference, though as medical officer I do secretly monitor the personal habits of my crew members, but don't let them know! I take my dirty washing with me and put it in the washing machine, for collection later. Activity We
have now reached the galley. This is where our meals are prepared. All hot food is prepared in the galley. This morning Augustus has prepared me a standard breakfast pack, which is in a sealed sterilized tray. We each have our own sets of metal cutlery which we clean ourselves in a specially provided washer unit in the galley. Cutlery is stored in personal lockers in the galley. The use of personal cutlery reduces the likelihood of germs being spread from person to person by this route. However the procedure does depend on crew members maintaining a standard of personal hygiene by cleaning their cutlery. Atmospherically transmitted pathogens can attach themselves to dirty cutlery and multiply. They will then of course, be ingested at the next meal by the user. I tell Augustus about the mold growth in the shower and he promises to clean it. Over breakfast I go through my daily work schedule. My Research Schedule says that I need to spend the day in the Bio-medical Laboratory, but I have two appointments. 09:00
Routine medical check: Yoko Nakamora I
finish my breakfast. It is 9:05 already. I am late.
