EVOLUTION

Evolution is the process by which living things can change, from one generation to another.  This allows them to adapt to their environment and cope with changes that might otherwise kill them.  Most biologists agree that, at the basic level of genetic mutation, the process is random, but it will probably bestow some advantages onto some of the offspring.  These offspring will fare better than others that are not so well adapted.  Eventually those not well adapted to their environment, and their offspring, will die out leaving the best adapted to inherit the environment.  This process is called natural selection.
