MICROBIOLOGY SECTIONS FOR GUARDIANS WEB SITE

This page is an index that will help navigation around the microbiology sections of the web site during development.  It acts as an entry point for the new Microbiology sections of the Guardians pages.  It is for site development only and will be removed when the site is fully functional.

Similarly, PURPLE text on web pages is for site development, and carries instructions concerning image location, animations, general comments (eg an outline of the intended page content, based on the original specification).  Here, it also contains a site plan and map.  All purple text will be removed as the pages are adapted for inclusion on the main GoM site..

The  design plan is for the three sections to have a backbone of teaching/educational material which will hold essential information, and this will conform to the agreed specification.  Teachers will be able to use this material in lesson plans.  It is presented in a chatty style, which will appeal to older children as well as teachers.

The children's section will be "on top" of this more academic material and will be accessible by different routes off the index page.  This will contain the interactive and educational elements specifically for children.  It is intended that this section will appeal to the child not only at school but also at home, browsing alone.  For this reason, this section needs a more game-like quality, which needs to be developed in association with web animators and designers.

These parts, however will have routes from them into the more educational material, so that those interested can research the subject themselves, on the website.  This encourages enquiry and introduces the idea of researching a subject.

At the end of each children's section will be a "Knowledge Challenge".   This will take the form of a multiple-choice quiz.  All the answers will available on the site and a trail of clues will be laid, so the information can be extracted.

Several ideas are presented here and the details are outlined on the individual web pages themselves.  These ideas are open for discussion and development.
