Space Station - 2020

Fact-Pak

Microgravity

In space you are apparently weightless. This is often called zero-g, and people sy there is no gravity in space. In fact, in space unless you are on an accelerating spacecraft you are in free fall, and the true gravitational position is one of Microgravity - ie there are tiny gravitational forces at work here.

Microgravity is the main advantage of a space station, as opposed to an Earth-bound laboratory or manufacturing facility. An enormous array of experiments can be performed in these conditions, and many, many new materials and products can be fabricated.

In the section we offer a selection of experiments and tests that demonstrates the effects of microgravity and its consequences.
